Tom Schulz enters his 38th season as part of Bobcat Athletics. He has been part of the Montana State University Athletic Media Relations staff since the fall of 1988 and currently serves as the primary contact for the Bobcat volleyball, skiing, women's basketball and women's tennis teams.
Schulz began his tenure as the Women's Sports Information Director, covering all publicity and marketing efforts for MSU women's athletics, which at the time was one of a handful of separate departments at the NCAA Division I level, and under the direction of women’s athletics pioneer and national leader Dr. Ginny Hunt.
When the MSU women’s athletics department merged with men’s athletics in the summer of 1993, he served as Associate SID for 10 years before being promoted to Sports Information Director in 2003.
Schulz has worked in several capacities at the national stage during his time at MSU. He has been the host media coordinator for five NCAA Division I Skiing Championships, and has worked three NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds, two NCAA Women's Basktball Regionals, and two NCAA Track and Field Championships. He was press conference moderator for the 2002 NCAA Women's Basketball West Regional in Boise and has served on the CoSIDA Ethics, Academic All-America and Publications Committees.
Schulz began his work in athletics at Bemidji State (MN) University where he graduated in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in mass communication, with an emphasis in journalism and broadcast media. Before his role at MSU, Schulz worked two seasons for St. Cloud State (MN) University as a graduate assistant where he worked alongside legendary hockey coach Herb Brooks as the Huskies made its transition to NCAA Division I.
He and his wife, Pam, have three children: Nic, Grace (an MSU graduate) and Brady, and a granddaughter, Harper.
