Sean Herrin, a former Carroll College football player who has worked in strength training for over a decade, became Montana State's Director of Football Strength and Conditioning in December, 2020.
Herrin came to MSU after four years at The PITT Training Facility in Bozeman, an operation owned and operated by former Bobcat star Dane Fletcher. He managed and directed athletic performance programs at The PITT from 2016-2020, including three years (20017-2020) working with the Bobcat football program as a consultant. Herrin also had oversight of the internship and staff development programs with responsibilities in the areas of budgeting, fund-raising and seminars.
A football standout at Helena High, Herrin graduated in 2004 and joined the Carroll College Fighting Saints program. He played for the Saints from 2004-08, spending the 2006 season as a receiver but working as a running back in the others. He played on three National Championship teams at Carroll, graduating in 2009.
During his undergrad career Herrin interned with Velocity Sports Performance in Redmond, Washington, in the summer of 2008. After graduating from Carroll with a BA in Health and Physical Education and Business Administration in 2009 he worked as a strength and conditioning specialist at Granite Health and Fitness in Billings from 2009-11. At the same time, he was an assistant coach for the Billings Outlaws arena football team. He completed his MS in Human Movement with specialization in Sports Conditioning in 2012.
After relocating to California Herrin interned for UCLA’s strength and conditioning staff (June-October, 2011), and for Athletes’ Performance (January-May 2012). He was strength and conditioning coach at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach in the summer of 2012, then became Sports Performance Director at Velocity Sports’ Redondo Beach, California, location. In July, 2016, Herrin returned to his native Montana to join the staff at The PITT Training Facility in Bozeman. He held that position until arriving at Montana State.
In his role at Montana State he oversees the strength and conditioning of Bobcat football student-athletes, and enhances their holistic development by helping to coordinate the efforts in areas such as athletic training, nutrition, and student-athlete wellness. During his athletic career Herrin played for Mike Van Diest at Carroll, and football coach Tony Arntson and basketball coach Steve Keller at Helena High.
