Former Boise State standout Byron Hout begins his fifth season as Montana State's defensive line coach in 2020, and has extended the program's long tradition of excellence in that position group. He helped Bryce Sterk transition from Buck to defensive end in 2019, and in the process helped the senior develop into an All-America who finished sixth nationally in sacks. During his four seasons at MSU Hout guided a young and injury-plagued group through the 2016 season, molding it into the heart of a unit that advanced to the FCS Playoffs in 2018 and to the FCS Semifinals in 2019. In both 2016 and 2018, goal-line stands keyed by the defensive line helped the Bobcats defeat the Grizzlies. Hout worked as a defensive graduate assistant at Washington State in 2012 before accepting a similar position at BSU (2013-15). He played in the Fiesta Bowl following the 2009 season, and finished his Broncos career with a 50-3 record. He was a two-year starter at BSU, landing 2nd Team All-Mountain West honors in 2010 and honorable mention honors in 2011.
