Campus Visits
Visiting NCAA institutions will help prospective student-athletes decide the best place to compete and study as collegiate student-athletes. We hope you'll take the opportunity to visit the Montana State University campus!
Team Visits
Bobcat Athletics extends an open invitation to high school coaches that wish to bring their team to experience a Montana State athletics event! Complimentary admissions are available for teams to attend a home Women's Volleyball, Men's Basketball, or Women's Basketball contest, in their respective sports. Coaches interested in taking advantage of this opportunity should send a roster of players, coaches, and managers on a school letterhead form to elizabeth.downer@montana.edu, indicating the date of the event the team wishes to attend and the coach's contact information. The roster will be used to generate a pass list that will be kept at the admission gate. Those attending must show photo ID and sign for their complimentary admission. This process is most efficient when a team can show up as a group and early. The admission gate opens 60 minutes prior to the scheduled match start time. Buses may be parked in the South Fieldhouse Lot, and bus drivers are also offered complimentary admission to the event.
These requests are subject to availability and department approval. Coaches are asked to provide a few games that they are interested in attending, in the event we are unable to accommodate the team for the requested game due to high demand. Limit one (1) complimentary admission per team per month. This opportunity is not offered for any Cat/Griz contests.
Official Visits
An official visit is usually paid, in full or in part, by the athletic department. MSU may provide one paid visit per prospect. A high school prospect may take five paid visits to institutions overall.
First Opportunity to Visit
Men's Basketball - August 1 of a prospective student-athlete's junior year of high school.
Women's Basketball - Thursday after the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship Game during the prospect's junior year in high school.
Football - April 1 of a prospective student-athlete's junior year of high school.
All Other Sports - August 1 of a prospective student-athlete's junior year of high school.
The official visit is limited to 48 hours and typically begins when the prospect arrives on campus. MSU pay provide lodging for the prospect and those accompanying the prospect, so long as charges are not incurred for additional guests*. MSU may pay actual round-trip transportation from for the prospect only*. If the prospect and their family drives to campus, MSU may reimburse mileage costs to the individual incurring the expense. MSU may provide a maximum of three meals per day during the visit for the prospect and up to four family members accompanying the prospect. MSU may cover expenses related to entertainment within a 30-mile radius of campus for the prospect and up to four family members accompanying the prospect. Complimentary admission for the prospect and up to five guests to a home event may be provided via pass list.
*exceptions apply for basketball.
Prior to any official visit the prospective student-athlete must:
· Provide the institution with a high school or college transcript
· Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
During the official visit, the prospect must sign the Official Paid Visit Prospect Responsibility Statement.
Unofficial Visits
In sports other than football and basketball, prospective student-athletes may not take unofficial visits to a member institution with athletics department involvement before August 1 of their junior year (August 1 of sophomore year for Men's Basketball). In Football and Women's Basketball, prospective student-athlete may take an unofficial visit to a member institution at any time (pursuant to the NCAA recruiting calendars). A prospective student-athlete may visit a member institution at their own expense an unlimited number of times. No third party may be involved in the arrangement or payment of an unofficial visit. The institution may not pay expenses or provide any entertainment except a maximum of three complimentary admissions to a home event.
During an unofficial visit, the institution may provide transportation only to view practice and competition sites in their sport or to attend a home athletics contest at any local facility. Contact may occur between prospective student-atheltes and the coaching staff within one mile of campus. Special parking, including the provision of campus parking passes, may not be provided or arranged.
