FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK
Director of Athletics Peter Fields
Fellow Bobcats,
Winning is a terrific goal.
Winning a game or a meet or a match is tremendous positive feedback for student-athletes and coaches. Winning a championship is a permanent landmark, a reminder of a special achievement – flags fly forever, as the saying goes. Montana State’s history of winning is long and garnished with pride.
And while winning is great, winning consistently is better. Last year we spoke proudly of winning our second President’s Cup, a league-wide competition in the Big Sky Conference which measures success in competition as well as academics. And while Bobcat Athletics won the Big Sky Men’s All-Sports Trophy in 2012-13, we came up just short in the race for the President’s Cup.
In so doing, however, we accomplished something that I consider very special. Measured over the last three and four years, we stand at the top of the league in President’s Cup points. There’s not a trophy for this achievement, but there is tremendous satisfaction. That satisfaction comes the knowledge that MSU’s student-athletes and coaches and athletic staff members work ceaselessly toward excellence.
We close the books on 2012-13 with pride, and look toward the new academic year with tremendous anticipation. Across the board, Bobcat Athletics is blessed with dedicated and talented student-athletes.
And certainly, we couldn’t have attained this level of success without your ardent support and for that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Go 'Cats,
Peter Fields
