Tryouts for the Montana State Cheer Squad and Cat Dancers will be Saturday, April 16, and Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Location: SOUTH GYM. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Clinics
Open Cheer/Dance Clinics will take place on Saturday, March 19 and Saturday, April 2, at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The cost will be $25 per person.
Scholarship Opportunities
We are happy to now have scholarship money in our program. There are five fee waivers awarded to the Spirit Squad each academic year (value of $20,000). The scholarship dollars are distributed between members of the Spirit Squad at the coach’s discretion. Being a Nike sponsored institution, all members are provided with uniforms, bags, warm-ups, shoes, practice gear, poms, etc.
Scholarships will be announced after tryouts and before the start of the season.
Requirements for Cheer Squad
- Fitness testing- running, pushups, sit-ups, flexibility
- Toe touch and pike jump
- Chant – taught at tryout
- Fight song – taught at tryout
- Sideline dance – taught at tryout
- Basic stunting skills – flying, basing, spotting
- Tumbling- highly recommended (back handspring – standing or running)
- Additional tumbling skills will be awarded bonus points
- GPA of 2.0 or higher

- Sideline dance – taught at tryout
- Technical dance- taught at tryout (will include leaps and turns, which will be scored)
- Strong technical background is highly recommended
- GPA of 2.0 or higher
