MACON, Ga. – The Montana State volleyball team fell 3-1 to Charleston Southern on the second day of the Mercer Invitational on Friday. The Bobcats (6-4) won the first set, but the Buccaneers (7-5) answered with three straight victories to close out the match.

"We played very inconsistently again," head coach Matt Houk said. "That is a problem that we have to solve, and we have a sense of urgency with that. The performance today was not up to our standards. There is not much else to say after a match like that. We have to do better tomorrow."

Rolling out with winning momentum from Thursday night's win over Mercer, the Bobcats claimed the first set of the match, but that would prove to be their only victory of the day. Charleston Southern led 11-4 early in the opening set, but the Cats caught up, reaching the 20-point mark first and finishing with a three-point win.

The Buccaneers turned the tide in their favor during the second set, evening the match score as they outpaced the Bobcats 25-16. MSU battled back from a point deficit in the third, but a late scoring run was not enough to fend off Charleston Southern as they won by two. The third and final set fell in favor of the Buccaneers as they sailed out of the Bobcats' reach to finish at 25-16.

Outside hitter Lauren Greeny once again led MSU with nine kills and a pair of aces. Nicolette Noble recorded 16 digs on the day.

The Bobcats return to the court on Saturday at 9 a.m. MT for the conclusion of the tournament and the non-conference season when they face Georgia Southern.
