The Bobcats quickly responded as McCarty captured a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 decision at No. 2, before sophomore Hudson Hawkins clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shivaani Selvan.
After dropping the opening doubles point, the Montana State women's tennis team rallied winning four of six singles matches to post a 4-3 win over Air Force on Saturday afternoon at Cadet East Gym.
Air Force (4-7) opened doubles winning at No. 2, before Montana State's (6-4) top tandem of Jojo Bach and Meg McCarty recorded a 6-3 win over Alexis Odom and Maya Michalski. The Falcons took the point as Nadia Kojonroj and Sofia Mavor handed MSU's Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili at 6-3 setback.
"We lost a close doubles point, and doubles is huge for us," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "We were competitive in every single spot, but they competed a little better in the big moments.
"After dropping the doubles point, we had a talk," Woodburn added. "I told them to just have fun and play free and leave it all on the court, and that's exactly what they did."
Gelashvili evened the match opening singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Giovanna Sanchirico. MSU took its first lead as Marta Garcia-Reboredo followed with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Kojonroj. "Nia dominated her match at the four spot, and Marta got a great win over a very tough opponent," Woodburn said.
Air Force tied the match at 2-2 as Arianna Van Houweling won a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 contest at No. 3 over Bach. The Bobcats quickly responded as McCarty captured a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 decision at No. 2, before sophomore Hudson Hawkins clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shivaani Selvan.
"It was a huge win for us today," Woodburn stated. "It was an overall team win. We were super gritty, and it took every spot and every player to get the win."
Montana State is off until it opens Big Sky Conference play at Northern Arizona, March 7.
