Justin Lamson led a balanced Montana State offense with two throwing touchdowns and a pair of running touchdowns as the third-ranked Bobcats dominated Weber State on Saturday, 66-14.
Lamson started the scoring festival with a short run behind the blocking of Titan Fleischmann and Burke Mastel. After Dane Steel's 30-yard punt return, Julius Davis burst up the middle as JT Reed led the blocking assault that helped Davis go 52 yards to make it 14-0 after the first quarter. Davis led all runners with 114 yards on 10 carries.
Under sunny skies the scoring continued in the second quarter when Adam Jones scored from the 2-yard line. That touchdown was setup on a wide receiver pass from Jordan Reed back to Lamson. It was Jones' 10th score of the season.
A Caden Dowler 54-yard return of an interception led to a 4-yard pass from Lamson to Rocky Lencioni. Lamson completed 12 of 16 passes for 114 yards. A trio of Bobcat quarterbacks spread the ball among 11 different receivers.
Following a Weber State touchdown, Jabez Wood brought the kickoff back 77 yards and Myles Sansted's 48-yard field goal put MSU (8-2 overall, 6-0 Big Sky) up 31-7 at halftime.
Lamson hit Ryan King for the receiver's first touchdown pass as a Bobcat to open the third quarter scoring. After Taco Dowler's 34-yard punt return, Davis reached the end zone one more time, plowing in from the 1-yard line. Before the third quarter ended, Takhari Carr returned an interception 25 yards to set up Lamson's 12-yard scramble to make it 52-7.
Backup quarterback Patrick Duchien started the fourth quarter scoring by tossing the ball into the end zone where the 6-foot-6 Reed collected a deflected pass for a 25-yard touchdown as the 21,467 Bobcat faithful continued the celebration.
Weber State (3-7, 1-5) got a touchdown pass from Dijon Jennings to Mason York before Chance Wilson called his own number for MSU, gaining 13 yards for a score to closeout the scoring and giving the Bobcats their fifth straight win over the Wildcats. It was also MSU's eighth straight win after opening the season 0-2.
Brendon Ross led MSU with eight tackles while Caden Dowler collected seven tackles as well as getting his interception and forcing a fumble that Neil Daily recovered in the second quarter.
Overall, MSU totaled 452 yards in offense (7.3 yards per play) while holding Weber State to 285 yards (4.5 yards per play).
MSU's final regular season home game is this week when UC Davis comes to Bozeman for an 8 p.m. kickoff. Weber State travels to Idaho State.
