BOZEMAN, Mont. (Nov. 24, 2025) – The third time was the charm for Caden Dowler.
Montana State's junior safety became the first Bobcat in history to reel in Big Sky Player of the Week honors three weeks in a row, and tacked on Stats Perform national honors, as well, in the aftermath of Montana State's 31-28 win at Montana on Saturday. Junior quarterback Justin Lamson also earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday.
Dowler reeled in Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week honors after a game-changing performance in the 124th Cat-Griz showdown. He logged six tackles, all solo, and late in the third quarter returned an interception for a touchdown that gave MSU a 24-21 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Saturday's game marked his third straight with at least one interception, and his second straight with a pick-six. Stats Perform named Dowler its FCS Player of the Week, as well, his first national honor.
Lamson led Montana State to an efficient and effective offensive performance on Saturday, completing a school record 90 percent of his passes (18 of 20) for 175 yards. He threw one touchdown pass, and by also rushing for one extended his streak to seven straight games with at least one of each. His rushing touchdown extended MSU's lead to 31-21 with 8:58 to play, and he engineered a game-clinching drive that began with 6:59 to play that didn't allow the Grizzlies to regain possession of the football.
Montana State's win gives the Bobcats their second consecutive Big Sky Championship, the program's third under current head coach Brent Vigen.
