Dowler registers historic achievement for the Bobcats
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Nov. 17, 2025) – Montana State safety Caden Dowler and punter/kicker Colby Frokjer each earned Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honors for their roles in Montana State's 38-17 win over No. 9 UC Davis on Saturday, the league announced on Monday.
Dowler, a junior from Billings, made one of the game's key plays. The Bobcats led 17-7 late in the third quarter, but UC Davis had moved into Bobcat territory. Aggies quarterback Caden Pinnick fired a pass into the Bobcat zone defense, and Dowler snared the throw and dashed 83 yards for a touchdown. It was tied as the third-longest interception return in MSU history.
That interception may have headlined Dowler's night, but it was hardly the whole story. He intercepted a second pass, led all players with 12 tackles, including one for a loss, while forcing up a fumble and breaking up a pass. He made history by becoming the sixth Bobcat in history to earn back-to-back Big Sky weekly honors. He joined Dakota Prukop (2014), Caleb Schreibeis (2012), Travis Lulay (2004), Corey Smith (2003), and Kelly Bradley (twice in 1984).
While Dowler wrecked the Aggies offense, Frokjer helped the Cats control field position. The freshman from West Haven, Utah, averaged 51.2 yards on four punts, pinning the Aggies inside the 20 once. He also kicked off seven times, resulting five touchbacks. Frokjer's kickoffs have the Cats second in the Big Sky in kickoff coverage this season.
Montana State visits Montana for a winner-take-all Big Sky championship showdown on Saturday at 12 noon.
