MSU, Bears meet for noon kickoff
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Oct. 30, 2025) – Montana State looks to maintain its winning ways Saturday, when the Bobcats aim for their seventh straight win against Northern Colorado in Greeley.
MSU (6-2 overall, 4-0 Big Sky) and the Bears (3-5, 1-3) meet at Nottingham Field at 12 noon. The game airs on CBS in Bozeman and The Spot-MTN across Montana.
For the second straight week, the Bobcats face an ascending Big Sky team led by a coach with a championship pedigree. Northern Colorado owns a league road win, beating Idaho 49-33 in Moscow, with near misses against Sacramento State and UC Davis. All three have been nationally-ranked during the 2025 season.
"A lot of the same improvement is what you see on film," said MSU head coach Brent Vigen, comparing UNC to last week's opponent, Cal Poly, who the Cats defeated 34-17 in San Luis Obispo. "They're a team that in coach (Ed) Lamb's years now has continued to, let's say, do it the right way, recruiting high school players and developing those guys."
After a 1-11 season in 2024, the Bears already own three wins this season. Quarterback Eric Gibson triggers the UNC offense, throwing for 260.9 yards a game, seventh-most in the FCS. Carver Cheeks is second nationally with 804 receiving yards, while UNC also operates a balanced ground game. Mathias Price's 343 yards leads the team, but four backs have carried at least 29 times.
A linebacker with Bobcat bloodlines leads Northern Colorado's defense. Hudson Voggesser, the son of former Montana State linebacker Corey Voggesser, has collected 63 tackles with 4.5 tackles-for-loss. Cam Chapa has three interceptions on the season.
An efficient aerial attack balanced by a strong ground game continues to fuel the Montana State offense. Quarterback Justin Lamson stands fourth in the FCS in completion percentage (719), while Julius Davis (567 yards rushing, 7.3 per carry) and Adam Jones (477 yards, 5.2 per carry) lead the Cats in rushing.
Montana State's defense has also emerged as a marvel of efficiency in 2025. The Cats lead the Big Sky in scoring defense, total defense, fewest first downs and lowest third down percentage allowed.
Vigen expects another hard-fought game on Saturday. "They've been in games, they've been competitive, they've won games, and we're going to have to go down there and play well," Vigen said.
