Bobcat duo continue to pile up academic honors
CSC Academic All-America Teams
BOZEMAN, Montana – Two of Montana State's most decorated football players in history added to their resumes on Tuesday, when defensive end Brody Grebe and quarterback Tommy Mellott earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-America honors.
Grebe, a senior from Melstone, becomes the third repeat First Team Academic All-America in MSU history, joining three-time selection Ryan Johnson (2000-02), and two-time choice Jon Montoya (2002-03). Mellot becomes an Academic All-America for the first time.
Montana State now has 16 first team selections. This marks only the second season in history that two Bobcats landed on CSC First Team Academic All-America honors – Montoya and Johnson in 2002. MSU is the only FCS team with two first team honorees, and Grebe and Mellott are the only first team selections from a Big Sky school.
Grebe also earned National Football Foundation All-Scholar honors this year, and was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, known as the Academic Heisman. Mellott was the 2023 Stats Perform Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award winner as the top student-athlete in the FCS. Mellott and Grebe each earned FCS Scholar-Athlete awards, and were finalists for the organization's post-graduate scholarship.
