Bobcats Come Up Short at Utah

“Playing a top 50 program like Utah really gives us a chance to see where we are at as a team,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn.
The University of Utah captured Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to earn the opening point of its match, en route to a 4-0 over win Montana State on Saturday afternoon at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
The Utes No. 3 duo of Kaila Barksdale and Hayley Roberts defeated MSU's Kavya Khirwar and Mia Ljubas 6-2, while Emma Kamper and Dylan Lolofie dispatched Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins, 6-2, to clinch the point.
Montana State's top doubles tandem of Jojo Bach and meg McCarty fell 7-5 to Sara Akid and Emma Valletta.
"Playing a top 50 program like Utah really gives us a chance to see where we are at as a team," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "I thought we did a nice job competing and the match score wasn't indicative of how close play was.
"We need to keep learning how to find a way to win," Woodburn added. "We'll work on the deuce points and committing to our style of play. Today, I thought we were just a bit tentative in the big moments."
Utah took singles matches at Nos. 3, 4, and 5 on the ladder to secure the victory. The Utes clinched the win at No. 5 singles where Lolofie defeated MSU's Andrea Cuquerella 6-2, 6-2.
"We're eager to get better," Woodburn said. "We will work this week on the little things in preparation for Cal Poly.
The Bobcats face Cal Poly, Friday, Jan. 24, and Santa Clara, Saturday. Both matches will be played in San Luis, Obispo, Calif.
