Brent Vigen welcomes veteran squad to preseason camp
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State opened its practices for the 2024 football season on Friday, and fourth-year head coach Brent Vigen said he felt the positive energy.
"It's always one of the more exciting days of the year," Vigen said after welcoming 109 Bobcats to the season's initial practice. "I liked the guys' energy and excitement today."
Nine offensive starters return for the Cats, with seven on the defensive side and all three specialists. Among the 23 seniors launching into their final season, three – defensive end Brody Grebe, quarterback Tommy Mellott and linebacker Danny Uluilakepa – served as 2023 team captains. Vigen said that experience showed on Friday. "We've got a group that's demonstrated a focus that we need, living in the moment, living day by day," he said.
That experience allows' the Bobcats to attack each day as it comes, Vigen said. "I enjoy this group. It brings the right attitude to the field, the right hunger, and today's just the starting point as far as getting a barometer where we're at as a football team."
The Bobcats practice most days at Lambert Field on Lincoln Street just east of 19th, including at 9:05 am Saturday, 4:10 pm Sunday and 4:10 pm Monday.
