Bobcats Runner-up in Men's Big Sky All-Sports Trophy Race
Despite capturing a Big Sky Conference title in outdoor track and field, finishing runner-up in football, cross country and indoor track and field, and placing fifth in tennis and basketball (won tournament championship), Montana State came up short in winning its third consecutive Big Sky Men's All-Sports Trophy.
Northern Arizona squeezed by MSU 8.4 to 8.0 to win for the 18th time since the league handed out the first all-sports trophy in 1963-64.
NAU won conference championships this past season in cross country, indoor track and field and tennis. The Lumberjacks also sported a runner-up finish in outdoor track and field, while placing fifth in football and seventh in basketball.
The men's all-sports trophy standings are determined by a formula that counts each school's regular season finishes or conference tournament/championship result for all conference-sponsored sports the institution offers. Basketball, football and tennis awards points based on regular season finishes, while points for track and field, cross country and golf are awarded based on conference tournament/championship results. Indoor and outdoor track and field points are averaged to create one score for track and field.
