“Congratulations to Bobcat student-athletes and coaches of our women’s program on winning their first Big Sky All-Sports trophy,” said MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello.
Paced by runner-up finishes in volleyball, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and coupled with fourth place showings in basketball, tennis, and golf, the Montana State women captured its first-ever Big Sky Conference All-Sports trophy in its 36-year history with the league.
"Congratulations to Bobcat student-athletes and coaches of our women's program on winning their first Big Sky All-Sports trophy," said MSU Director of Athletics Leon Costello. "This award is special as it speaks to the broad-based success of all our programs, considering we didn't finish lower than fourth in any final standings. I am very proud of their continued efforts and results in their respective sports."
The Bobcat volleyball team opened the 2023-24 campaign finishing with a school record 24-9 overall mark. Its second-place finish with a 12-4 Big Sky ledger was also a program best. MSU capped its season advancing to the Fab Four of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
Led by all-conference standouts Kyla Christopher-Moody and Grace Gilbreth, the MSU cross country team finished second posting 57 points at the Big Sky meet in Missoula, while the Bobcat indoors and outdoors track and field teams finished runner-up to perennial league power Northern Arizona.
The Cats averaged 7.6 points to nip Northern Arizona (7.3) in the standings. The Lumberjacks won Big Sky titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.
The women's all-sports trophy standings are determined by a formula that counts each school's regular season finish or conference tournament/championship result for all conference-sponsored sports the institution offers. Basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, and tennis awards points based on regular season finishes, while points for track & field, cross country and golf are awarded based on conference tournament/championship results. Indoor and outdoor track & field points are averaged to create one score for track & field.
