“I’m really proud of this group and how we battled,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn.
Montana State's top doubles tandem of Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins pulled out a 6-4 win over Idaho's Valentina Rodas and Naomi Schreder to give the Bobcats the doubles point en route to a 4-3 victory over the Vandals on Friday afternoon at P1FCU Kibbie Dome.
"I'm really proud of this group and how we battled," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "The doubles point was extremely difficult, and it was needed to get the win. Marta and Hudson pulled out a tough one as well as Paula and Andrea. We played smart in the big moments."
Using its momentum from doubles action, Montana State (8-4, 1-2) got a quick 6-4, 6-1 victory from freshman Paula Dougherty at No. 2 to give MSU a 2-0 advantage. Bozeman product and freshman Meg McCarty followed with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3 and Garcia-Reboredo clinched the match with a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the top spot, giving the Bobcats its first Big Sky win of the season.
"In singles, our Nos.1, 2, and 3 spots helped us get the job done," Woodburn said. "We played our tennis and trusted the game. I'm incredibly happy for the team to get a road win and our first Big Sky victory of the season."
Idaho (6-5, 0-1) closed out the match with wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles.
