BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State running back Adam Jones was named to the Stats Perform 2024 Jerry Rice Award Watch List as one of the top 30 freshman players in NCAA Division I FCS football.
Named for legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, the award is in its 14th season. Past recipients include Cooper Kupp of Eastern Washington, Chase Edmonds, Trey Lance, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. To be eligible a player must be considered a freshman by his conference in his first academic year, or his second if he meets the requirements of playing less than four regular season games. This is the first in-season list, and players may be added before a national media panel selects the Stats Perform national award winners.
A redshirt freshman from Missoula, Jones has rushed for 477 yards in his seven games, averaging 68.1 yards a game and 6.4 yards per rush. He registered one of the signature plays of Montana State's season in the opener at New Mexico, dashing 93 yards for a fourth quarter touchdown that sparked the team's come-from-behind victory.
The 2024 Jerry Rice Award will be announced on Dec. 4 and honored at the Stats Perform National Awards Banquet on Jan. 4 in Frisco, Texas. The 30 players on this year's initial watch list:
