Baangman Continues Early Season Success

The Bobcat trio accounted for 88 points, the second highest total among the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Nordic women.
For the second consecutive race Montana State sophomore Tilde Baangman reached the podium placing second at the Westminster Invitational in the women's freestyle sprints at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, Thursday morning.
The product of Oestersund, Sweden, recorded a 3:54.51 qualifying mark, before posting the second fastest time in the quarterfinals (3:47.65). Baangman then went 3:50.21 in semifinal competition to advance to the finals where she clocked 3:58.03.
Utah's Karianne Dengerud won the event with a finals time of 3:52.00.
MSU's Emma Albrecht and Kate Oldham also made it out of the qualifying round recording times of 4:02.86 and 4:04.60, Respectively. Oldham, a junior from Carbondale, Colo., placed fourth overall with a 3:52.54 clocking in the quarterfinals, while Albrecht finished 11th in 3:56.73.
The Bobcat trio accounted for 88 points, the second highest total among the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Nordic women. Utah registered 94 points.
In men's action, MSU missed having any skiers move on from the qualifying round. The Bobcats' top performance came from freshman Gavin Galyardt, who placed 21st in 3:27.13. Also scoring for MSU were Fredrik Nilsen, 22nd, 3:27.33, and Joel Power, 24th, 3:30.03.
After four events, four-time defending national champion Utah sits atop the team standings with 353 points, followed by Denver 309, Colorado 265, Alaska Fairbanks 260, MSU 259, Alaska Anchorage 236, and Wyoming 134.
The alpine portion of the Westminster Invitational begins with giant slalom on Jan. 17.
