Montana State’s Baangman Captures Westminster Invite 10K Classic Title

The win marked the first top of the podium appearance for Baangman as a collegiate racer.
Montana State sophomore Tilde Baangman captured top honors at the Westminster Invitational in the women's 10K classic race, the first Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association event of 2024 season on Tuesday morning at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
The Westminster Invitational coincides with this week's U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships.
Baangman, a product of Oestersund, Sweden, covered the course in 27:13.3, a good 12-seconds ahead of runner-up Sydney Palmer-Leger of Utah. The win marked the first top of the podium appearance for Baangman as a collegiate racer.
Also, producing points for the Bobcats were Kate Oldham, 12th, 29:1.6, and Emma Albrecht, 22nd, 30:05.1. In all, the Bobcat women's Nordic squad posted 74 points, third best of the race.
Other MSU finishers included Ann Pryce, 23rd, 30:29.7, Rosie Whittington-Evans, 24th, 30:58.1, Lily Murnane, 33rd, 33:05.3, and Helen Wilson, 34th, 33:37.9.
Florian Winker led the Bobcat men's contingent finishing ninth in a time of 24:59.3. Also producing points were Fredrik Nilsen, 13th, 25:16.6, and Phineas Fischer, 26:35.9.
Denver's Andreas Kirkeng won the event in 23:50.8.
Other MSU finishers included Joel Power, 26th, 26:45.0, Kai Meyers, 27th, 27:10.8, and Gavin Galyardt, 31st, 27:51.2.
After two events, Utah, the four-time defending NCAA champions, sit atop the team standings with 183 points. The Utes are followed by DU 158, Alaska Fairbanks 132, MSU 127, Alaska Anchorage 124, Colorado 118, and Wyoming 66.
The Nordic freestyle races are slated for Thursday morning.
