Women’s Alpine Team Navigates Heavy Snow Day

Due to the conditions, less than 50% of the participants in both men’s and women’s slalom did not complete the race.
Led by All-American Kristiane Bekkestad, the Montana State women's alpine team overcame heavy snow to post the second best showing at the Westminster Invitational which continued with the slalom races on Wednesday at Olympic Park.
Bekkestad finished in the top five in both the first and second runs to finish fourth overall in 1:37.30. Also scoring for the Bobcats were Lana Zbasnik, 8th, 1:40.62, and Nellie Talbot, 11th, 1:41.57.
Brynne Hitchcock clocked the fifth fastest second run to finish 12th in 1:41.67.
Justine Lamontagne and Ylva Falksete did not finish their first runs.
Due to the conditions, less than 50% of the participants in both men's and women's slalom did not complete the race.
As a team the Bobcat women notched 74 points, placing just behind Alaska-Anchorage who posted 85.
Denver's Nora Brand won the slalom title in 1:35.51.
Gianluca Boehm paced the MSU men finishing fourth overall in 1:28.74. The only other Bobcat to produce points was Tanner Perkins, 23rd, 1:36.85. Dawson Yates and Jamie Casselman did not finish their second runs, while Henry Heaydon and Luc Dalton did not finish their first runs,
Due to a new rule this season that does not allow skiers to hike in slalom races, MSU notched 42 points as only two of a possible three racers scored.
Colorado's Filip Wahlqvist won the men's slalom crown in 1:27.73.
Behind the solid performance from the Bobcat women MSU moved from fifth to fourth in the team standings. Utah sits atop the list with 477 points, followed by DU 419, UAA 398, MSU 375, CU 372, Alaska-Fairbanks 260, Wyoming 134, Westminster 107, Colorado Mountain 64, and Nevada 52.
The Westminster Invitational finishes with the giant slalom races on Friday.
