Bobcats Continue Fall Tennis Slate at Bedford Cup

The Montana State women’s tennis team plays in its second tournament of the fall season as six Bobcats participate in the Bedford Cup Sept. 14-17 at the United States Air Force Academy in USAFA, Colorado.
The Montana State women's tennis team plays in its second tournament of the fall season as six Bobcats participate in the Bedford Cup Sept. 14-17 at the United States Air Force Academy in USAFA, Colorado.
Participating teams include MSU, Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming. Four brackets – Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta – make up singles play, while two brackets – Blue, White – feature doubles action.
For Montana State, newcomer Paula Dougherty plays in the Alpha Bracket; Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Bozeman product Meg McCarty, Bravo Bracket; Andrea Cuquerella, Charlie Bracket; and Angel Bean and Hudson Hawkins, Delta Bracket. In doubles, Dougherty/Hawkins and Garcia-Reboredo/McCarty compete in the Blue Bracket, while Cuquerella/Bean combine in White Bracket action.
The Bobcats are coming off its opening weekend at the Idaho State Invitational that saw upperclassmen Jazmin Lerman and Felicia Jayasaputra win a pair of matches.
"Overall, it was a good first weekend where we had the chance to compete in both singles and doubles," said assistant coach Leo Millet, who oversaw play at ISU. "We picked up some good victories, but the most successful part of the weekend was the growth and the improvements that the team showed each and every day.
"We have very high goals for this year and this past weekend was the first step for our season," he added. "We will continue to trust the process, enjoy competing and keep on climbing to the top."
MSU played at the ISU Invitational with a limited number of student-athletes as the team battled illness.
"We only brought a handful of players," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "Felicia had a good weekend winning a few singles matches while fighting an illness. It was fun for Hudson and Mia (Ljubas) to get their first wins as Bobcats."
Following the Bedford Cup, the Bobcats compete at the Boise State Invite, Sept. 22-24.
