Men’s Alpine Team Finishes Strong at CU Invite; Nordic Squad Opens DU Meet

Anna Pryce led the MSU Nordic squad in freestyle. The product of Canmore, Alberta covered the 5k course in 17:21.1.
The Montana State ski team went different directions on Friday as the Bobcat alpine contingent concluded action at the Spencer James Nelson Memorial Colorado Invitational, while the MSU Nordic squad opened competition at the Denver Invitational at Maloit Park.
Senior Riley Seger once again led Montana State placing fourth in giant slalom with a two-run clocking of 1:46.51 at Eldora Mountain Resort. The native of Vancouver, B.C., Canada was followed in the top ten by teammates Gianluca Boehm, ninth, 1:46.69, and Jamie Casselman, tenth, 1:46.93.
Isak Staurset, who had the fourth fastest second run missed the top 10, finishing 11th just .17-seconds behind Casselman. Other Bobcats finishers included Henry Heaydon, 15th, 1:47.33, Tanner Perkins, 16th, 1:47.37, and Dawson yates, 32nd, 1:50.54.
The MSU men's squad finished the giant slalom with 73 points, second to Utah's 94 point output.
The Utes Gustav Vollo won the GS title in 1:45.48.
Newcomer Justine Lamontagne paced the MSU women's squad placing 13th in 1:55.10. She was followed in scoring by Kristiane Bekkestad, 15th, 1:55.35, and Tegan Wold, 28th, 1:58.50. Sara Rask of Denver took her second giant slalom title with a two-run total of 1:51.69.
Three-time defending national champion Utah captured the team title racking up 655 points. The Utes were followed by CU 643, Denver 540, MSU 491, Alaska Anchorage 387, Westminster 282, Alaska Fairbanks, 231, Colorado Mountain 111, Nevada 108, Wyoming 30.
The Bobcat alpine squad will compete in slalom at the Denver Invitational Feb. 11-12 at Loveland Ski Area.

DU's Bernhard Flaschberger won the men's race in 14:09.0.
After two events, Utah leads the DU Invite with 199 points, followed by DU 149, Colorado 144, Alaska Anchorage 127, Alaska Fairbanks 113, MSU 108 and Wyoming 68.
The Nordic classical races will take place on Saturday morning.
