Rocco Perciavalle was Montana State's most prolific ball carrier in the program's first 60 years
We look at the 25 players that Bobcat fans and a blue ribbon panel of long-time MSU football observers ranked between 26th and 50th in the quest to determine the program's all-time players. In this segment of the countdown, players are listed alphabetically. You can find details here and a directory here.
Rocco Perciavalle, FB, 1956-59
ALL-TIME TEAM: None previously
HONORS: 1959 and 1958 Honorable Mention All-America
A CLOSER LOOK: In an era of offensive football marked by deception and spreading the football around in the ground game, Rocco Perciavalle's numbers don't pop off the page but his play did.
Perciavalle battled through an early-season injury as a freshman to gain 40 yards on eight carries. As the starting fullback in 1957 he gained 150 yards on 50 carries, the fourth-most rushes on the team, and in 1958 rushed for 601 yards on 123 attempts and scored eight touchdowns to earn honorable mention All-America honors. He battered the Grizzlies for 122 yards out of Herb Agocs' Split T attack, and banged out 108 more against Idaho State. As a senior in 1959 h led the Bobcats with 90 carries and gained 379 yards, scoring four touchdowns.
Perciavalle finished his Bobcat career with 1,170 rushing yards. That mark was believed to be a Montana State record at the time, as was his 601 yards in 1958.
