Three offensive skill players, O-lineman and safety comprise summertime additions
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State fortified its offense in three position groups while adding a key piece to the defense for 2022 during a busy spring recruiting season, Bobcat coach Brent Vigen announced Wednesday.
"In these five we mix three one-year players and two with years ahead of them," Vigen said. "The three one-year guys each have backgrounds that will allow them to contribute greatly in their one year with us. There is opportunity for both of the younger guys to come in and compete for playing time right away while continuing to develop."
A look:
Omarion Aigbedion, OL
6-3, 280, Fr, Katy, Texas (USMA Prep/Katys)
An offensive lineman with size and athleticism, Omar Aigbedion joins the Bobcat program after spending last fall at the U.S. Military Academy Prep School, an institution attached to Army West Point. Aigbedion earned 1st Team All-District Honors as a senior in 2020. From Bobcat Head Coach Brent Vigen: "Omar has four years to compete with us. We really like his strength and aggressiveness as an interior offensive lineman."
Malik Mullins, WR
6-3, 190, So, Florida City, Florida (Independence CC/Perry, Ga., HS)
Malik Mullins transfers to Montana State from Independence Community College in Kansas, arriving as a sophomore. He played in eight games last fall, catching 16 passes for 303 yards, an impressive 18.9 per catch. He caught three TD passes with a long of 72 yards. As a senior at Perry High School in Georgia in 2019 he caught 32 passes for 598 yards and four touchdowns. From Bobcat Head Coach Brent Vigen: "Malik provides both length and athleticism at the receiver position. We anticipate he'll compete for playing time this fall."
Rhedi Short, S
6-1, 196, Sr, Pasadena, California (Arizona/Cathedral)
Rhedi Short transfers to Montana State from Arizona as a senior… Short played in 11 games in 2021, with all four of his tackles against USC. He played in all five 2020 contests as a safety, logging 30 total tackles to tie for the team lead. That included 23 solo stops. He redshirted at UA in 2017 and did not see any game time in 2018 or 2019. A First Team All-Angeles selection as a junior and senior at Cathedral, he was selected for the Polynesian All-American Bowl as a senior. He logged 47 tackles with a dozen passes defended, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one recovered that season, when his team finished 11-1. From Bobcat Head Coach Brent Vigen: "Rhedi is an experienced safety who has the opportunity to challenge for the strong safety position where Tre Webb played last year."
Clevan Thomas Jr., WR
5-11, 193, GS, Miami, Florida (Kentucky/Charles W. Flanagan)
After missing 2021 due to injury Clevan Thomas Jr. transfers to Montana State from Kentucky for his final college season. Flanagan High in Miami he caught nine TD passes as a junior, helping his team to a 2015 Class 8A state title. Clevan Thomas Sr. played football at Florida State. From Bobcat Head Coach Brent Vigen: "In Clevan we're adding a proven, versatile player who showed he can play inside or outside in his time at Kentucky. He'll compete for our open spots at receiver positions right away."
Kaegun Williams, RB
