
Two Bobcats Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Honors

Junior Riley Seger and sophomore Kristiane Bekkestad were selected for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
A pair of Montana State skiers have been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District 6 At-Large Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Junior Riley Seger and sophomore Kristiane Bekkestad were selected for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
Seger, a business finance major from Vancouver, B.C., was the recipient of the NCAA's 2022 Elite 90 award at the NCAA Skiing Championships for top academic and athletic achievement. He garnered First-Team All-America honors after placing third in giant slalom at the NCAA meet in March. During this year's Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association season, Seger posted four top 10 finishes, including winning the GS titles at the Utah Invitational and the RMISA Qualifier. In 2021, Seger earned Second-Team All-America accolades in giant slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships.
Bekkestad, a product of Aal, Norway, was a 2022 First-Team All-America performer following a third place slalom finish at the NCAA Skiing Championships in Park City, Utah. She recorded six podium appearances during the RMISA season, including winning slalom titles at the RMISA Invitational and the RMISA Alpine Qualifier races. Bekkestad was the RMISA MVP in slalom this winter. As a freshman, she was Second-Team All-America performer after placing ninth in slalom at the NCAA championships. In two years at MSU, Bekkestad has recorded 14 top ten finishes in slalom and giant slalom.
Seger and Bekkestad were selected from CoSIDA District 6, which encompasses schools from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
At-large recipients are chosen from the sports of women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, fencing, women's field hockey, ice hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and men's wrestling.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions- NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District selections advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot with honorees named in mid-June.
Also named to the men's academic all-district squad were Anton Albers, golf, UALR, Lachlan Barker, golf, Iowa State, Florian Broska, tennis, Mississippi State, Clay Carlson, wrestling, South Dakota State, Ford Clegg, golf, Mississippi State, Jared Franek, wrestling, North Dakota State, Dryden McKay, hockey, Minnesota State, Ben Meyers, hockey, Minnesota, and Jacob Wright, wrestling, Wyoming.
The women's academic team also included Habiba Aly, tennis, South Dakota, Emmanouela Antonaki, tennis, Mississippi State, Laura Cooke, gymnastics, Iowa State, Lindsay Eliasen, rowing, Minnesota, Taylor Heise, hockey, Minnesota, Laerke Jensen, golf, South Dakota, Ona Loper, gymnastics, Minnesota, Emma Polusny, hockey, St. Cloud State, Lexy Ramler, gymnastics, Minnesota, and Chiara Tamburlini, golf, Ole Miss.
