Risinger leaves college coaching while Weese joins Chicago Bears as scouting assistant
BOZEMAN, Montana – Kyle Risinger, Montana State's assistant defensive backs coach and co-special teams coordinator, and General Manager for Bobcat Football Ryan Weese each resigned from their positions to pursue other opportunities, MSU head coach Brent Vigen said Tuesday.
Risinger plans to pursue opportunities outside of college football coaching after six years at MSU. Weese, who joined the Bobcats as director of on-campus recruiting a year ago, becomes a scouting assistant with the Chicago Bears.
"I really appreciated Kyle's investment in Bobcat Football and felt he did an excellent job working with our defensive backs along with coordinating two of our special teams this past season," Vigen said. "His efforts contributed to our success in 2021 and I respect his decision to begin a new chapter along with his wife, Brittany and son, Cash. They will always be members of the Bobcat Football family, and we wish them nothing but the best."
Assisting with player evaluation in the recruiting process was one of Weese's roles during his time at MSU, and he served NFL internships in that area which led him to his position with the Bears. "Ryan did a great job behind the scenes for Bobcat Football heading up both our operations and recruiting efforts. He has bright future in the game and we are very excited for his opportunity to continue to grow at the NFL level."
Vigen also released an updated depth chart (attached) following spring drills and the close of the semester. Montana State's second-year coach liked the work his team put in the months after the team's FCS National Championship Game appearance in January.
"We are pleased as a staff with the effort and improvement of so many of our players this spring," Vigen said. "Our spring practices proved to be a time for players to improve technically, further learn our schemes and most importantly, develop the depth of our football team."
Like every program, the spring brought personnel changes to the Bobcat roster. Alterations to transfer and eligibility policies have altered the college football landscape, but Vigen said it has offered opportunities for both individuals and teams.
"The transfer portal is likely here to stay and with the extra season of eligibility granted due to the Covid year it's created more roster movement than we are accustomed to," he said. "It has allowed us to add some talented young men while giving some on our roster a chance to seek a different opportunity."
The Bobcats enter the summer with seven returning starters on both sides of the line of scrimmage, led by quarterback Tommy Mellott and running back Isaiah Ifanse on offense and linebacker Callahan O'Reilly and safety Jeffrey Manning Jr. on defense. Vigen indicated the current depth chart is a snapshot that doesn't include incoming freshmen or transfers.
"This depth chart reflects where we are today, as most positions are still up for grabs. The work that will be put in this summer, the addition of new transfers and freshmen along with fall camp will ultimately determine who will be on field come September 3 when we take on McNeese State in the Gold Rush game. We are excited to keep developing the 2022 Bobcat Football team one step at a time!"
