Mellott rushed for 273 yards in win over No. 5 Weber State
BOZEMAN, Montana – Tommy Mellott rushed for 273 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Montana State to a 43-58 win over fifth-ranked Weber State, and on Monday the sophomore quarterback from Butte earned Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Mellott's rushing total came on 32 carries, and stands as the most ever by a Big Sky quarterback and second-most by any ball carrier in Bobcat history. It is the fifth-highest single game total in the FCS this season. Mellott also threw for 140 yards and a touchdown on 15-for-23 passing with on interception. One of his biggest play of the day came on his interception, when he stopped Weber State cornerback Eddie Heckard on his way to the end zone for his lone tackle. The Cats forced Weber State to settle for a field goal on that possession.
The Big Sky weekly award is the first for Mellott.
