GREELEY, Colorado – One of the defining characteristics of Montana State's 2022 season as entering the second half is change in the secondary. That trend extends to game seven.
With the announcement of Rylan Ortt's unavailability and an injury to senior transfer Rhedi Short, Kendric Bailey makes his first career start at strong safety at Northern Colorado today. Short's leg injury leaves him unavailable indefinitely, while Ortt awaits reinstatement by the NCAA.
Bailey is the fourth MSU defensive back to make his starting debut in 2022, joining Short, Dru Polidore and safety Tyson Pottenger. Bailey is backed up by redshirt freshman Eli Aby of Laurel.

The Bobcats carry a 10-game Nottingham Field win streak into Saturday's contest. The Cats became UNC's first Big Sky win in 2007 when Rob Ash's first team was defeated at Nottingham Field, but MSU has not lost since.

Callahan O'Reilly has accounted for six turnovers in 2022. MSU's senior linebacker has three interceptions – the most by a Bobcat 'backer since 2011 – to go with two forced fumbles and on fumble recovery.

Lane Sumner has rushed for at least 100 yards in both of his 2022 games. He sandwiched four games lost due to injury with a career high 159 yards against McNeese in the opener and 100 last week against Idaho State.
