Director of Football Recruiting accepts on-field coaching role
BOZEMAN, Montana - Tyler Walker, Montana State's Director of Football Recruiting for the past year, has been elevated to tight ends coach, head coach Brent Vigen said.
"I am excited to announce that Tyler will move into the role of coaching our tight ends and fullbacks," Vigen said. "He has played an integral role for Bobcat Football and our success in the past 11 months as our Director of Recruiting and has proven to be intelligent, detailed and extremely hard working. He has coaching experience working on both sides of the football and I know he is very eager to get back on the field."
Walker arrived at MSU after two seasons as an assistant coach at Division III Muskingum University in Ohio. Walker served as special teams coach and recruiting coordinator in 2018 and defensive coordinator in 2019.
He was an assistant at Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2017, where his primary responsibility was receivers. That team finished 14-0 and Michigan Division 4 State Championship.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity that Coach Vigen has given me," Walker said, "and I'm looking forward to working with our great players and staff. I'm pumped to get to work to continue meeting the standard of excellence here at Montana State."
Walker began his coaching career at Miami (Ohio) in 2014-15 before becoming receivers coach and passing game co-coordinator at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, during the 2016 season. He played receiver at Bethel (Tennessee) in 2008 and 2009 before transferring to Miami, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2014.
