MSU faces familiar non-league foes in Seattle, Oral Roberts
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State makes its 2022 home debut this weekend when the Bobcat women's tennis team hosts Seattle on Friday and Oral Roberts on Sunday. Both matches begin at 10 am in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
The Bobcats enter weekend play with a 1-5 record in 2021-22, but are just 11 days removed from a significant win. Sandwiched among losses to powerful programs such as Tulsa, Louisiana Tech and Air Force is a 4-3 win against Wyoming on January 16.
"We had an incredible win against Wyoming," Montana State coach Jon Reeves said. "That's one of the teams we've always strived to be on par with, and it was a terrific win. It was a lot of fun."
The Redhawks stand 0-2 on the season, falling at Utah 7-0 and to Montana in Salt Lake City 4-3. Against UM, Seattle won the doubles point by taking matches at the lower two ladder positions, and won at No. 2 singles (Liliya Dimova) and No. 6 singles (Elena Kraleva).
ORU dropped its season opener to Saint Louis 4-3 in Wichita last weekend. The Eagles play Seattle in Bozeman on Saturday before battling the Bobcats on Sunday. Oral Roberts captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, and Oleksandra Nahurska (at No. 1) and Reagan Miley (at No. 4) earned singles victories.
The Bobcats have found it difficult to settle into a routine this month, Reeves said. "We haven't had our full team together since we've been back from (the semester) break," he said. "We've been down three or four players at times and we haven't been altogether on the court since (December). Hopefully we're at full strength this weekend."
After this weekend the Bobcats visit Gonzaga on February 4.
