A letter from Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello
Wow! What a year it has been and it is only January. I continue to be amazed by the number of Bobcat fans that made the "difficult" journey to Frisco, TX to cheer on the MSU football team in the FCS National Championship. The energy before and during the game was electric and still gives me chills. The sea of blue was such a great representation of our state, Montana State University and our entire fanbase. I was equally impressed by the applause and appreciation shown for our team as they left the field. We are so proud of their accomplishments and motivated to take the next step. Thank you Bobcat fans for your support of that journey and always.
What a game last night for our Bobcat women's basketball team! The win was the seventh consecutive and tenth in eleven games for Coach Binford and MSU women's basketball. The environment our fans created in the Brick certainly provided a huge spark. With the historic start for the MSU men's basketball, both teams are on a roll and in the hunt for Big Sky Conference Championships. I encourage you to purchase your tickets for our remaining home games, including two men's games this week on Thursday and Saturday. Also, join us in Boise for the Big Sky Conference tournaments.
Other Bobcat teams competing this winter are off to very strong starts - Track and Field continues to set personal and program records, our ski team finished runner up to the defending national champions last week, and our men's tennis team swept Eastern Washington in their conference opener last weekend. With so many of our sports competing right now, I invite you to visit our composite calendar to see all upcoming events.
While the success in competition for our teams right now is evident, I am even more proud of their work in the classroom. Our student-athletes earned a cumulative GPA of 3.30 last fall, with 43 students on the President's List, 97 on the Dean's List and a whopping 73% earned a 3.0 or better. What an incredible accomplishment by all of our Bobcat student-athletes.
A few weeks ago we announced our ticket prices and sales timeline for the 2022 Bobcat Football season. We are looking forward to another exciting season and I encourage you to renew or purchase your tickets starting February 1. Don't forget, we sold out every regular season game in 2021 so get your tickets now. You can also click here to review our priority points system.
Please save the date for MSU's annual Giving Day on Thursday, February 17. Bobcat Athletics has set a goal of raising one full scholarship- approximately $30,000- and we can't do it without you. As you know, the Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund supplies the funding for all student-athlete scholarships and your support will help us continue to provide a full allotment of scholarships to all of our 15 athletic programs.
Thank you for your continued support of our department and it is a great day to be a Bobcat!
