MSU Coach Brent Vigen Presides Over First Preseason Practice as Bobcat Coach

Montana State opens preseason in prep for 2021 season
BOZEMAN, Montana (August 6, 2021) – It may have looked like a leisurely stroll through Bobcat Stadium at times, but it was actually Montana State's first-year head football coach Brent Vigen executing his plan.
"I try to get around everywhere and make sure things look like they should from an organizational perspective, from a tempo perspective," Vigen said of his first preseason practice as MSU's head coach. "We'll watch the film and I'll get a chance to watch both sides as we move through camp. That answer might change as position battles move through camp, but today was about seeing everybody and getting a pulse for where we were as a team."
Vigen welcomed 38 returning lettermen, including eight offensive starters and five across the line of scrimmage. Four players – linebacker Troy Andersen, nose tackle Chase Benson, offensive guard Taylor Tuiasosopo and defensive end Amandre Williams – who have earned All-Big Sky honors of some variety anchor the squad.
While Vigen has never before been a head coach, he said spring drills acclimated him to the process during practice. "In the spring I was back and forth enough, so in August it's (natural) that way. I think it's important that I'm able to give all our coaches feedback, give as many of our players feedback (as possible)."
Without a special teams coordinator this season, Vigen is also handling kickers and punters at this point. "The role relative to specialists on our team has changed, so giving those guys feedback – we didn't do a lot with them today but will as time goes on – is important, and I have to step into that role, as well."
The Bobcats return to practice Saturday morning at 9:15 am in Bobcat Stadium. Vigen indicated that practices are closed to the general public.
