Garrett Coon, RB: If you want to get Montana State running backs coach Jimmy Beal to smile, mention Garrett Coon. "He's my guy," Beal, a former Bobcat running back himself, says of Coon, a walk-on running back from Sheridan, Wyoming. Coon earned Wyoming Gatorade Player of the Year honors in 2019 to cap a career that featured three all-state honors, two Super 25 Wyoming honors, and two state titles at Sheridan High. He is part of a deep and talented running backs room at MSU, but rest assured that he has his position coach's attention.
Spotlight – Max Kimberly: Considered one of Montana State's best pre-World War II players, Max Kimberly's career fell at a crucial time in Bobcat athletics history. Originally from Stevensville, he was a three-year standout at tackle, from 1936-38, which meant he played in the Bobcats' final year in the 'old' Rocky Mountain Conference, when MSC annually played league games against Wyoming, BYU, Utah State and Utah. The Cats finished 1936 3-5, then played the 1937 season to a 3-4-1 ledger. In 1938, with Schubert Dyche replacing Jack Croft as head coach, the Cats posted a 3-5-1 record. Kimberly returned to the program in the years after World War II, working intermittently as assistant football coach and head wrestling coach. He was regarded as a true Bobcat during his many decades associated with Montana State.
Chronology: Fred Yendel (1926), Max Kimberley (1937), William Kelso (1940), Jim Krall (1941), William Nelson (1946), John Hanson (1947), John Stinchfield (1948-49), Bob Tinnes (1950), Gene Gadgley (1953), Jerry Shaw (1954), Andrew Craske (1982), Ken Lang (1983), Bob Kimball (1984-85), Trent Croaker (1986), Briggs Willoughby (1987), Manase Fotu (1988), Nick Ciccio (1990), Marc McCulloch (1991), Brad Brazier (1992), Paul White (1994), Joe Baker (1996-99), Zach Ueland (2001), Jesse Wegner (2002), Torin Roschinger (2003), Casey Kloppman (2004), Braxton Thelen (2005-07), CJ Palmer (2008), Travis Bertelson (2009), Kerry Sloan (2010), Trace Timmer (2011-15), Nich Van Horssen (2016-), Brian Campbell (2016-19), Garrett Coon (2020-)
