League schools convene in Spokane to commence football activities for 2021
SPOKANE, Washington – The ramp-up to Montana State's 2021 football season begins in earnest this week with the Big Sky Conference's 2021 Kickoff event in Spokane, Washington.
Along with the preseason polls and Offensive and Defensive Preseason MVPs (Sunday) and all-conference teams (Monday), the league announced its 2022-2024 football schedules on Saturday. And Monday, the Big Sky Conference and ESPN+ celebrate the beginning of their new relationship with student-athlete and coach interviews that air all day on the league's new streaming partner.
The Big Sky becomes a 12-team football league in 2022 upon Southern Utah's departure, which forced a reconfiguration of conference schedules. In 2022, Montana State's 125th year of intercollegiate football, the team opens league play at Eastern Washington on September 24 before hosting UC Davis and Idaho State the next two Saturdays. On October 15 the Bobcats visit Northern Colorado, then host Weber State on October 22 for the first time since 2017. After an open weekend, the Cats visit NAU on November 5 and Cal Poly on November 12, before hosting the Grizzlies on November 19 to close the regular season.
The Bobcats open Big Sky play on the road for the third straight season in 2023, this time at perennial title contender Weber State on September 23. One week later the Bobcats visit Portland State, then enjoy the bye on October 7. MSU hosts Cal Poly on October 14 before a pair of road trips, visiting Sacramento State and Idaho. On November 4 the Bobcats host NAU, and on November 11 host Eastern Washington. MSU closes the 2023 regular season on November 18 in Missoula.
As will have been annual tradition by the 2024 Big Sky season, Montana State will once again open on the road. The Cats play at Idaho State on September 28, then host Northern Colorado and Idaho before visiting Portland State on October 19. The team's open week falls on October 26, and on November 2 the difficult stretch run begins with a trip to Eastern Washington. MSU hosts Sacramento State on November 9, visits UC Davis one week later, and on November 23 hosts the Cat-Griz game.
Live coverage of the event begins on Monday, July 26, at 10 am MT on ESPN+ with league commissioner Tom Wistrcill. The Big Sky Conference's Mariluz Cook interviews players and coaches for more than five hours, with Montana State seniors Lewis Kidd and Amandre Williams and head coach Brent Vigen taking their turn at 10:12 am. The Bobcats are the first group of players and coaches interviewed. Follow along on Twitter at #BigSkyFB and @BigSkyFB, as well as @msubobcats and @msubobcats_fb.
