Bobcats by the Numbers takes a look at current and past Bobcats whose jersey numbers correspond to the number of days remaining before Montana State opens the 2021 football season at Wyoming on September 4.

Ryan Davis, TE: A funny thing happened to Ryan Davis on his way to a redshirt season at MSU – he was too valuable for it. That was back in 2018, when the Billings Skyview product – and famously, a Bobcat legacy – was so impressive that he was activated to the varsity after five games, and immediately contributed on special teams. The son of Doug, a one-time Bobcat gridder, and Debbie Davis, Ryan's brother Leo was a star for the Cats, another brother, Matt, played for MSU, and Steven was a Bobcat basketball player. Known for his relentless work ethic, Ryan Davis is a physical blocker and although he continues to look for his first catch his blocking is integral to MSU's offensive effort.
Spotlight – Neal Smith: In a program that took pride in defense and produced many, many brilliant players on that side of the ball, Neal Smith stands out. During his senior season, 1997, he rolled up 19 sacks, eighth-most in MSU history until that point, making three other tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He logged All-America and First Team All-Big Sky honors, and finished his career with 35.5 sacks, second-most in Montana State history.
