Bobcats by the Numbers takes a look at current and past Bobcats whose jersey numbers correspond to the number of days remaining before Montana State opens the 2021 football season at Wyoming on September 4.

Jacob Kettels, OL: Just when he was ready to thrust himself into the conversation about playing time as a redshirt freshman, Kettels was injured on the first day of summer workouts and is lost for the season. Still, the future is bright for the young man from the same hometown as MSU All-America Bryce Sterk. Kettels will remain a possible starter once he returns to health at one of the tackle spots.
Spotlight: In one of the most amazing facts that BBTN has uncovered, jersey number 75 has produced three Bobcat Hall of Famers from among the 27 players that have worn that number in the Blue and Gold, including two during the '70s. Dusty Birkenbuel was a star linebacker in the early part of the decade, and defensive lineman Rick Vancleeve followed him. Both came to MSU from Great Falls, both had a large role on Big Sky Championship teams, and both earned All-Big Sky honors. Cliff Hysell wore No. 75 at MSU for two seasons in the 1960s, as well, after transferring from Utah.
