Brent Vigen Presides Over First Bobcat Practice Tuesday

Montana State's first-year head coach liked what he saw
BOZEMAN, Montana – From the moment he walked onto the Bobcat Stadium field on Tuesday afternoon, Brent Vigen new things were different.
Montana State's first year head football coach wore the colors of a different school for only the third time in his career. It was his first season away from the University of Wyoming since 2014, and his first not coaching with current Cowboys head coach Craig Bohl since 2002.
And it was the first time he approached a practice session as his team's head coach.
"It's interesting," he laughed when asked if paying attention to all three units on the field posed more of a challenge than just working with the offense. "I think it's certainly a new role, wanting to divide that attention and wanting to support all three phases. It's going to take some getting used to, but I enjoyed it."
With the Bobcats practicing for the first time since October, Vigen was satisfied with his team's effort. "I think our enthusiasm, our effort, was what it should be today," he said. "It should be this way since we haven't been on the field for a while, and I think there's excitement with the newness of everything. We've got to be able to match that on Thursday. As things get harder, both the learning aspect and the physical aspect, we've got to keep the same approach as today."
The work his squad put in since its last practice has paid dividends, Vigen said. "I think our guys are well-conditioned right now. We're still in a non-padded situation so the physical aspect is hard to show, but I think we practiced hard today and we were practicing just as hard the last period as the first."
Vigen said Montana State's first spring practice was a good step, but only the first one. "We can get better, how we practiced and the attention to detail we'll see on the film, but the effort and the tempo for a first day is what we want. Now we have to match that going forward."
The Bobcats practice each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday up to the team's Sonny Holland Classic spring game on April 24 in Bobcat Stadium.
