Wold Makes Two Podium Appearances at RMISA Invitational

Montana State’s Tegan Wold finished third in two slalom races at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Invitational at Westminster and Soldier Hollow at Snowbird on Monday afternoon.

Wold, a sophomore from Vail, Colo. posted a two-run time of 1:36.62 in the opening event. Also scoring for the Bobcats were Brynne Hitchcock, 18th, 1:39.24, and Hanna Nyquist, 27th, 1:49.72.
Wold has reached the podium- a top three finish- on three occasions this winter.
"Tegan continues to ski well and is starting to show a killer instinct which is helping her score some excellent points," said MSU head coach Kevin Francis.
Kristiane Bekkestad, who posted the fifth fastest opening run, did not finish her second go. Nellie Talbot did not finish her second run, as well.
Denver's Amelia Smart won the first slalom event in 1:35.83.
After totaling just 59 points in the first slalom event, the Bobcats responded with 81 points in the second slalom race, just two points back of Denver and one behind Utah.
"The weather was perfect, but the snow was tough," Francis said. "It was fairly rutted and it was a struggle to be fast. Everyone learned from the first races and applied it to the second races."
Wold again paced the Bobcats with a two-run total of 1:39.33 in the second slalom event. Her opening 47.49 was the fourth fastest first run. Bekkestad, who recorded the second fastest second run in 50.20 notched a two-run total of 1:39.44 to place fourth overall. Rounding out MSU's scoring was Hitchcock, 17th, in 1:41.46.
Talbot placed 23rd in 1:48.23, while Nyquist finished 24th in 1:49.15.
Smart captured her second slalom title of the day in 1:37.91.
After two events, Utah sits atop the team standings with 163 points. The Utes are followed by Denver 157, Colorado 141, MSU 140, Westminster 127.5, Alaska Anchorage 97.5, and Colorado Mountain 72.
Two men's slalom races will be held Tuesday, with the Nordic events taking place Feb. 22-23.
