Montana State's 2006 home opener was memorable for all the wrong reasons
A look at September 9 in Montana State football history...

SPOTLIGHT: Bobcat fans that haven't completely scrubbed the team's 2006 home-opening loss to Chadron State from the hard drive of their memory can look back on this game with a knowing nod. It was a devastating loss, completely deflating after MSU's upset win over Colorado the week before, but there's a kicker. The Eagles' star running back, who rumbled for 225 yards and two touchdowns that day, was none other than Danny Woodhead. That's the same Danny Woodhead who gained over 2,200 yards in a nine-year NFL career. Woodhead's 27-yard touchdown on CSC's opening drive gave the team a lead it would never relinquish. Chadron led 14-0 in the game's first five minutes, and after the Cats pulled within 14-10 in the second quarter the game would never be within single digits again. Woodhead stole the headlines, but quarterback Joe McLain threw for 130 yards and Bryce Jarzynka's 50-yard second quarter touchdown catch was a big play in the game. MSU picked up more first downs (20 to 19) and gained more yards (460 to 359) than its Division II counterpart, but CSC intercepted four Bobcat passes. Josh Lewis led the MSU offense with 151 receiving yards.
BONUS: Sonny Lubick's tenure as Montana State's head coach opened with an impressive 21-13 win at North Dakota on this day in 1978. The Bobcats won their first seven games under Lubick, but losses to Northern Arizona and UM knocked the team from Big Sky contention. Paul Dennehy threw for one Bobcat touchdown and scored another himself. and Delmar Jones scored a 22-yard touchdown run with 10:59 to play to seal MSU's win. Jones led all players with 80 rushing yards, while Mark McGrath caught three passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.
