SPOTLIGHT: Travis Lulay's first home-opening start was a memorable one on September 6, 2003. Hosting nationally-ranked Gardner-Webb, Lulay directed the Bobcats to a 38-3 win. The MSU offense rushed for 228 yards - 120 by Cal State Northridge transfer Bruce Molock - and added 172 in the air in MSU's easy win. Nate Cook fopened the scoring with a first quarter ield goal, then Lulay's 46-yard scoring strike to Scott Turnquist and David Mayfield's five-yard run pushed the halftime lead to 17-0. After Gardner-Webb's only score of the day, Corey Smith returned the kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. David Mayfield's second TD of the day created the final margin of victory.
