Bobcat Club looks to cover student-athlete scholarship and health and nutrition costs
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State's athletic teams may not be competing at the moment, but Bobcat fans can. Bobcat Athletics announced its #PlantTheFlag Campaign Wednesday, which Director of Athletics Leon Costello calls an opportunity.
"While our Bobcat student-athletes and coaches aren't able to compete this fall, which is disappointing for everyone, their work and our support hasn't stopped," Costello said. "Everyone who supports Montana State, our student-athletes and coaches have the opportunity to do the same. Plant the Flag simply means that we will use this time and these circumstances to get better by working together and continuing to move forward."
Costello indicated that the campaign's goal of raising $3 million is the amount of revenue lost in the event of full cancellation of the 2020-21 athletic seasons. The funds would cover all scholarship costs including student-athlete tuition, fees, room and board, and books. That amount also includes anticipated additional medical and nutrition expenses, all of which are covered by generated revenues in normal years.
"Even without competition, the cost of supporting are student-athletes remains largely unchanged," Costello said. "The effort and focus I've seen from them during these unusual and difficult times has amazed me, and so has the support of our Bobcat fans. This campaign will provide uninterrupted support of our programs and set Bobcat Athletics on a path for success for years to come."
This campaign will encompass many things Bobcat fans have seen before like the Blue & Gold Gala (virtual this year), season ticket renewals, Bobcat Club license plates renewals and new initiatives specific to this academic calendar which will be announced at later dates.
