SPOTLIGHT: Stephen F. Austin rolled up 473 yards and 25 first downs against Montana State on September 15, 2012, but even amidst an offensive explosion - MSU countered with 28 first downs and 458 yards in a 43-35 win - Bobcat defensive players made impactful plays, even if the volume was not high. Cornerback Deonte Flowers logged 10 tackles, and linebacker Jody Owens had eight. Aleksei Grosulak and Steven Bethley picked off passes. But the biggest play may have come at the very end, when SFA was rallying to get the game tied. Facing a first-and-10 from its own territory with a little less than 30 seconds to play, senior defensive end Caleb Schreibeis stripped Lumberjacks quarterback Brady Attaway of the ball. MSU's Hayden Vick recovered it, ending the competitive portion of the game. Schreibeis' sack raised his season total to 2.5 on the way 12.5 for the season, still tied for sixth in MSU history, and his forced fumble was the first of a school-record eight in 2012. Schreibeis' sensational senior season landed him Montana State's first-ever Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in the FCS.
