Big Sky coaches and media members/SIDs see Bobcats finishing third in the league in 2020
BOZEMAN, Montana – Coming off the program's most wins and best post-season finish since 1984, Montana State was selected third in separate polls of the Big Sky Conference's coaches and sports information directors/media members, the league announced Thursday.
The Bobcats finished 2019 with an 11-4 record, tied for the program's second-most ever and most since the 1984 National Championship season, and rolled up a 6-2 Big Sky record, third place in the league. Montana State returns eight offensive starters and six on defense from that squad. Weber State (first) and UM (second) stand ahead of the Cats in both the coaches and SID polls, garnering and six of 44 first place votes in the SID poll.
MSU won five straight games against FCS opponents following a season-opening loss at Texas Tech of the Big 12, and after a pair of mid-season stumbles against Sacramento State and non-Big Sky opponent North Dakota in a contest that counted in the league standings the Bobcats six straight wins. That stretch included home wins against nationally-ranked UM and, in the FCS Playoffs, UAlbany and Austin Peay. The team's season ended in the FCS Semifinals with a loss at North Dakota State.
The Bobcats are scheduled to open the 2020 season against Long Island on September 5 in Bobcat Stadium.
