George Parke leads Cats to 3-0-1 record inside Treasure State borders
88 Years Ago – 1932
June 9: Each day leading to Montana State's 2020 season opener, scheduled for September 5, we will look at the season as many years ago as it is days until kickoff of the Gold Rush game.
88 YEARS AGO – Not much went right for the Bobcats outside of the Treasure State in 1932. Montana State lost its opener against BYU in Ogden, then fell at Utah State, and in mid-October lost at Wyoming. Inside the state's borders, things went much better. The Cats opened their home slate with a scoreless tie against Idaho State (then called Idaho Southern Branch), beat Carroll in the season-closing Homecoming contest, and in between won a pair of pretty big games in Butte. The Bobcats made easy work in a rare win against the Grizzlies, 19-7, and beat Montana Tech 7-0.
CAT-GRIZ RECAP: A crowd of 5,600, the smallest to attend a Cat-Griz game since permanent residence was taken up in Butte nearly a decade earlier, witnessed a surprising affair. The Grizzlies opened the scoring when Dale Hinman of Greybull, Wyoming, returned an interception 93 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter. The pick-six was the longest scoring play in series history to that point, and was the fourth UM interception return for a touchdown. It was also pretty much the only thing the UM faithful had to celebrate all day. A second quarter touchdown by Ray Buzzetti evened the score at the intermission, and after an early Grizzly charge in the second half it was all Bobcats. After recovering a UM fumble at the enemy 35 late in the third quarter, Juel Edwards plunged one yard for the touchdown to give Montana State a 13-7 lead. Later in the final period Buzzetti dashed 20 yards for a score to give Montana State the final margin of victory, a 19-7 win that was the second and final victory for MSC in the rivalry between 1908 and 1947.
MOST COMMON STARTING LINEUP: Left End-Ed Breeden, Left Tackle-James Baltzell, Left Guard-Kenneth Dyer, Center-Paul McLean, Right Guard-Joe Hazen, Right Tackle-Chuck Nagle, Right End-Bill Coey, Quarterback-Harold Dyer, Left Halfback-Ray Buzzetti, Right Halfback-George Parke, Fullback-George Hansen.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: none
ROCKY MOUNTAIN STANDINGS: The Bobcats stumbled through the Rocky Mountain Conference schedule without a win for the second straight season, finishing with an 0-3 record.
NOTES 'N' STUFF: After Montana Sate's win in 1932, the Cats wouldn't score against the Grizzlies again until 1941.
