Every Bobcat team posts grade point average of 3.0 or better
BOZEMAN, Montana – Bobcat student-athletes recorded another outstanding semester academically with each varsity team compiling a cumulative team grade point average of better than 3.0, Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello said on Friday.
Under the unique circumstances of the mid-semester transition to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bobcat student-athletes recorded an average student-athlete grade point average of 3.52 (out of 4.0). Well over half of the department's 326 student-athletes qualified for university honors, with 63 recording perfect 4.0 grade point averages for a spot on the President's List and 110 more earning mention on the Dean's List (3.50-3.99 grade point average).
"High academic achievement has always been a hallmark of Bobcat Athletics," Costello said. "It's a credit to the culture in each of our programs and the hard work of the student-athletes and the Academic Services team, but it's especially impressive that this happened in the unique circumstances this semester."
Montana State's Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services Jamie Rizzuto, who played a key role in guiding Bobcat student-athletes through the semester, lauded them for overcoming the difficult circumstances. "We all know that our student-athletes possess grit and perseverance," she said. "But it is especially rewarding to witness it on display in the classroom in the face of adversity."
MSU's alpine ski team led the way with a 3.874 grade point average, with six teams registering a GPA of 3.70 or better. Eighty-four percent (274) of Bobcat student-athletes finished the spring semester with a grade point average of at least 3.0.
