Men’s Alpine Squad Lifts Bobcats to Fourth At RMISA/NCAA West Regional Championships

Behind a strong performance from its men’s alpine team, the Montana State ski team sits in fourth place after the opening day of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA West Regional Championships being held at Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.

The Bobcats placed three skiers in the giant slalom top 10 led by freshman Riley Seger, who placed fourth with a two-run clocking of 1:53.93. The product of Vancouver, B.C. was followed by Louis Muhlen-Schulte, seventh, 1:54.55, and Åge Solheim, eighth, 1:54.62.
Utah's Joachim Bakken Lien won the RMISA/West Regional giant slalom title in 1:52.93.
The MSU women's alpine squad was guided by Nellie Talbot, who finished sixth with a two-run total of 1:57.34. Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Haley Cutler, 19th, 1:59.92, and Cecily Decker, 20th, 2:00.09.
Mikaela Tommy of Colorado won the women's giant slalom event in 1:55.62.
Senior Emma Tarbath led the Montana State Nordic squad in the 5/10-km freestyle races on Friday afternoon. The native of Anchorage, Alaska placed sixth in a time of 13:33.6. She was followed by teammates Anna Fake, 13th, 13:54.1, and Aubrey Leclair, 14th, 13:56.4.
Denver's Eveliina Piippo captured the women's freestyle race in 12:53.3.
The Bobcats men's team was paced by Eli Jensen, who finished 12th overall in 25:41.8. Also scoring points for MSU were Ti Donaldson, 15th, 26:04.2, and Reed Godfrey, 22nd, 26:51.9.
DU's Bernha Flaschberger won the men's freestyle in 24:21.0.
After four events, Utah sits atop the team standings with 329 points. The Utes are followed by DU 323, Colorado 322.5, MSU 247, Alaska Anchorage 226, Westminster 146.5, Alaska Fairbanks 88 and Colorado Mountain 47.
The alpine slalom and Nordic classic races will be held on Saturday.
Montana State will host the 2020 NCAA Skiing Championships at Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center, March 11-14.
