BOBCAT CALENDAR: Montana State earned a mythical state title today in 1929

Gus Wylie scored the day's only touchdown as the Cats topped Mt. St. Charles
A day-by-day look at Bobcat football history...
November 28
SPOTLIGHT: Even in an era when Montana State played as full-fledged members of the Rocky Mountain Conference, with the University in the Pacific Coast Conference (forerunner of the Pac 12), winning top honors in the Treasure State was a big deal in 1929.
After the Bobcats beat UM 14-12, Montana State and Mt. St. Charles (now Carroll College) arranged a challenge game on November 28 at Montana Power Park in Great Falls to settle the state's mythical championship (the Griz beat Carroll earlier in the season).
Mt. St. Charles carried the day statistically, out-gaining the Bobcats just over 200 yards to 100 and 10 first downs to five, but early in the second quarter Montana State took advantage of good field position - the drive began at the Saints' 49 - with the day's only touchdown. Facing a third down at the 12, Austin DeFrate found Gus Wylie on an in route at the five, and Wylie stepped over the stripe for the touchdown. Ivar Twilde's extra point try failed, but Mt. St. Charles was ruled offside, and Twilde's second kick was good. Helena product Vic O'Leary and Great Falls High grad "Fat" Semingsen were lauded as among Montana State's stars.
BONUS: In the last rivalry game played on the Montana State campus for more than a decade, Montana State blanked the Grizzlies 31-0 today in 1901. More than 2,000 games circled College Field to watch the Aggies earn a resounding win. Charles Ray, John Codd, Will Schabarker and Jones were among those scoring for the Cats.
