SPOTLIGHT: Montana State tuned up for its Big Sky opener with a 21-14 win over future Big Sky rival Nevada. Dave Miller was the offensive star for the Bobcats, rushing for 103 yards and scoring the winning touchdown from one yard out with three minutes to play. Miller set up his plunge by breaking through the middle of the line for a 37-yard dash toward paydirt. Junior Ray Foley contributed greatly to the effort, picking off three Wolf Pack passes on the afternoon.
With a clean conference slate and wins over Nevada and Fresno State the Bobcats qualified for the Camellia Bowl - considered the championship small college teams in the West - and defeated Sacramento State 28-7.
